  • 1cupmilk
  • 2tablespoonsbutter
  • 2tablespoonsbrown sugar (Optional)
  • 1teaspoonvanilla extract
  • 1teaspoonground cinnamon
  • ¼teaspoonsalt
  • 1cupdiced fresh peaches

  • Directions

Place water, oats, milk, butter, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt in an oven-proof bowl; place into the bottom of a slow cooker. Fill slow cooker with water up to the water level in the bowl. Cover slow cooker.

Cook on Low until oats are tender, 6 to 8 hours.

Stir in peaches and juices. Cover; continue cooking on Low until warmed, about 30 minutes more. Serve.

    Cook's Notes:

Do not substitute anything for steel-cut oats.

You can use half-and-half instead of milk, margarine instead of butter, and canned or frozen peaches instead of fresh.

The oven-proof bowl placed inside the slow cooker prevents the oatmeal from drying out. Not to mention, it is much easier to clean the bowl. It sort of makes a double boiler.
